The option to preview the presets of SoundID VoiceAI is not working in Logic Pro X, Pro Tools and Cubase - this article explains why, and offers a solution.
In this article:
Preview only works with playback engaged
You may have noticed in some DAWs the SoundID VoiceAI preset previews are not working until DAW playback is initiated. This is a limitation of these DAWs and is due to how these DAWs manage their plugin CPU consumption. The problem has been reported Logic Pro, Cubase, Nuendo, Pro Tools and Digital Performer, but there might other affected DAws too.
In these DAWs, the plugin is put to sleep when no audio is passing through them, or when playback is not initiated due to tyhe DAW processing efficiency features and settings. This resutls in preset previews not working.
Solutions
Logic Pro
A workaround to keep the plugin awake is to route the input of your vocal/audio track to an unused bus and enable recording.
- On the voice/audio track, click on the Input slot.
- Pick any unused Bus (e.g., Bus > Bus 32).
- Click Record Enable ("R" button) on the track.
Pro Tools
To resolve the issue in Pro Tools, the "Dynamic Plug-In Processing" setting must be turned OFF in the Playback Engine settings:
- Launch Pro Tools and go to Setup > Playback Engine.
- Uncheck the Dynamic Plug-In Processing setting (turn it OFF).
- Click on OK to save the changes.
Cubase & Nuendo
To resolve the issue in Cubase and Nuendo, the "Smart Plug-In Processing" setting should be disabled:
- Load the SoundID VoiceAI plugin in Cubase/Nuendo.
- Select File > Preferences > VST-Plug-ins.
- Deactivate the Suspend VST 3 plug-in processing when no audio signals are received setting.
Digital Performer
Apart from the preset preview issue, an additional problem may occur in Digital Performer due to a similar setting. Audio capture can fail to start: once the plugin is armed for capture, pressing play reverts the button back to 'Capture' instead of starting to capture (you should instead see the capture progress time stamps and the button changing to 'Stop').
To resolve both the preset preview and audio capture issues in Digital Performer, enable the "Run Open Instances of This Plug-in in Real Time" setting to keep the plugin awake.
- Load the SoundID VoiceAI plugin in Digital Performer.
- Open the mini-menu in the top-right corner.
- Enable the Run Open Instances of this Plug-in in Real Time setting.
