Sonarworks EDU program

The Sonarworks educational discount program offers students and teachers SoundID Reference products at up to 50 % off. EDU pricing applies to select SoundID Reference software license and license upgrade products (download-only). For speaker calibration, a license + measurement microphone bundle is also available.

EDU licenses can be activated and used on a single computer only (regular licenses can be activated and used on three computers). Otherwise, the EDU product licenses are identical to regular SoundID Reference product licenses in terms of functionality. Learn more here: SoundID Reference in Education.

Note: If the product you're seeking is not on the EDU pricing list, it is not available in the EDU program.

How to apply

To claim the discount, eligible individuals must apply through the education portal and submit proof of enrollment or employment. Apply here: EDU application form. 

Your application will be reviewed by our staff, and you will receive a conclusive response within three business days. Further steps on how to proceed with the EDU purchase will be specified in the response email message.

Important: Make sure to check your email spam or junk folders, as our responses to EDU applications are often filtered there. If you applied using your institution’s email address, we also recommend contacting your IT department to ensure emails from Sonarworks are whitelisted and delivered properly.

Note: The application form has a 2 MB image size upload limit for the image/photo attachments. If you are encountering any errors when uploading the attachments, please try a smaller file.

Note: If you've bought an EDU license before November 2019 and are now looking for an EDU upgrade, please submit a support request below, as the EDU upgrades might not directly work with the older EDU license versions.

Bulk license deals for educational institutions

Frequently asked questions

I have an EDU license; can I upgrade to a full license?

Yes, regular licenses and educational licenses can be cross-graded within the available upgrade paths. The resulting upgrade output license type will be determined by the upgrade type applied:

• Apply a regular upgrade to an existing EDU license - the upgrade output will be a regular license.
• Apply an EDU upgrade code to an existing regular license - the upgrade output will be an EDU license.

It is also possible to convert your existing EDU license to a regular license without applying a higher-tier license upgrade. For example, if you own an EDU license of SoundID Reference for Headphones, it can be converted to a regular Headphones license. 

Note that this solution is possible only if the original license was purchased in the Sonarworks Store (not from a third-party seller). Contact our support team for solutions (submit a request below). 

"This upgrade cannot be used with your current license" warning message

If you have purchased an upgrade that is incompatible with your current license, you'll see this dialog when trying to apply the upgrade in the account: "This upgrade code cannot be used with your current license"

Contact Sonarworks Support to resolve the issue (click the 'Submit a request' button below).

Note: The most common incompatible upgrade is from Reference 4 Studio Edition to SoundID Reference for Headphones crossgrade. 

Note: Some upgrades are possible, but require a 2-step upgrade path. For example from Reference 4 Headphones to SoundID Reference for Speakers & Headphones.

Is the Multichannel upgrade available in EDU?

No, SoundID Reference for Multichannel is not available in the Sonarworks educational program. Only the regular upgrade options are available for Multichannel. A regular Multichannel upgrade can be applied to an existing EDU license, though, as explained here.

Can I use Virtual Monitoring with my EDU license?

Yes, the Virtual Monitoring Add-on is fully compatible with educational licenses, however, the VM Add-on itself is not available with the EDU pricing.

Note: EDU licenses offer a single activation seat only, therefore, the VM Add-on can be used on one device at a time with a SoundID Reference EDU license.

Is SoundID VoiceAI available in EDU?

No, SoundID VoiceAI is not available in the Sonarworks educational program. Only regular license options are available, as shown here: SoundID VoiceAI license types: Perpetual and Pay-as-you-go.

Is the measurement microphone available separately in EDU?

No, the SoundID Reference Measurement Microphone is not available with educational pricing separately. The only available EDU option for the measurement microphone is the Speakers & Headphones + microphone EDU bundle. 

If you are looking for the EDU upgrade to the speaker version (from headphones), the microphone will have to be purchased at full price separately.
