Sound Id does not recognize 3.5 jack output with Airpods Max

When I connect my AirPods Max to the 3.5mm to USB-C jack the sound ID doesn’t recognize the output of the external headphones. However, when I connect the Earpods via USB-C, they are detected. Interestingly, when I connect my AirPods Max via USB-C, they are also not recognized. Could anyone shed some light on the reason behind this issue? I have an M3 max.
