Exploring self-calibration for unsupported headphone setups

I’m using a Sennheiser HD800 with Dekoni Elite Sheepskin pads and a Zy Cable for HD800 – 1/4" (6.35mm) termination, which potentially results in a slightly different frequency response from the stock configuration. There’s no SoundID Reference profile for this setup, and the Individual Headphone Calibration service doesn’t currently appear to cover user-supplied headphones.

I was wondering whether you’ve ever considered the possibility of enabling a form of self-calibration in such cases — for example, by using the existing SoundID Reference measurement mic with a simplified headform designed to provide consistent positioning and repeatability.

For users working with several headphones or custom setups, this could offer more flexibility — and depending on feasibility, might also create an opportunity to offer a new type of dedicated hardware, together with a paid feature extension to the calibration app.

I thought I’d raise the idea in case it’s relevant or of interest.
