Mac: Sample Rate changes to 44.1 kHz after I set it to 48 kHz

Hi there. In Systemwide, I tried several times to change the sample rate to 48 kHz. However, as soon as I switch to Cubase, I always get a popup notice saying “Output set to M4, Out 1 /Out 2, 44100 Hz.” The project rate in Cubase is 48000 Hz, so if I can't adjust the actual sample rate, this produces a conflict. 
Can anyone help me with this?
