I only want to use Sonarworks for measuring and the correction I want to perform in RoomEQ.
So I installed 5.12.0.50 under Win10 and setup calibration as “Plugin” not to change audio on my Windows system.
But now after restart of Windows 10 I experience that cmd.exe is being started and I get a prompt for Administrator privileges. If I remember right a “net” command.
In the Autostart settings of my Account I also see one new strange entry “Program” with no icon and another new entry for Sonarworks.
Why is Sonarworks putting stuff into Autostart settings, if I only want to use it for measuring as I want to perform room correction in RME's RoomEQ?
In rare cases I would like to add Sonarworks as VST plugin to Cubase.
But in both cases I do not see any necessity that Sonarworks fiddles around in my settings which needs Admin rights on startup/login.
What is happening there? How can I avoid/deactivate this?
I am very concerned about security and setup of my optimized DAW.
I do not want that tools do something in the background which require Admin privileges
especially if I do not see any reason for it, I only want to use Sonarworks in rare cases as plugin, not more.

Thanks for posting!
I'm not exactly sure about the admin privilege prompts and the process entries (we'd need to have a closer look at that), however, if you are referring to the SoundID Reference standalone app launching automatically upon computer startup, this can be turned off in the app Preferences:
Standalone application is not applicable here. I choosed “plugin” as installation type.
So the expectation is, that Sonarworks does not integrate into the system and will only be loaded in the DAW as VST.
But .. since I installed Sonarworks I get now on every reboot/login a message that a net command needs to be executed
and this needs Admin privileges.
I didn't install any other software so it is very clear that it is Sonarworks related.
It is pretty annoying that this happens and even on every login.
As I have a separate Administrator account for security reasons I get on every login now the box to enter my Administrator password.
But even if my user would have the Admin bit then I would have the same issue to give admin privileges to a net command where I have really no clue for what exact purpose.
Sorry, but this is very annoying and I wonder that this has not been ruled out in a software that is already quite long in the market.
The standalone application is always installed by default, it is not possible to uncheck it for installation. The reason for this is that the standalone app is the central hub for some of the fundamental software functionality and features (such as activation, etc.).
Can you please confirm that disabling the auto-launch on computer startup for the standalone app prevents the issue? To do this, open that standalone app and disable the setting in the app's Preferences, as shown in the screesnhot above. Thank you!
Thanks for your help.
But after not being able to measure my HiFi corner and different issues I decided to give the product back, I initiated already the return.
I restored my backup/disk image, to have a 100% guaranteed deinstallation from my Windows system.
Sorry to hear that, but thanks for following up and letting us know! You can always ask for more assistance here if you decide to give it another shot.
Thanks Kārlis for your very kind support. Bad luck. Lets see whether things are changing in a future release :-)
Sure thing, happy to advise!
It is unlikely that anything would be changed in a future release though - most likely, sample drift is somehow introduced by one of the components in the signal chain, or perhaps an elusive clock configuration setting or something similar in one of the control interfaces. There is no obvious way to implement a prevention mechanism for that (if even possible), so to address the problem, we must first pin down the cause of the problem. As mentioned earlier, feel free to to submit a support request if you decide to try it again, - we will have a closer look and do our best to pin down the problem.
From there, perhaps there might be an improvement possible in the Measure too, pp to handle the given issue, but we would have to find the culprit first.
See my other posting where I explained my setup.
There is nothing wrong with the signal chain.
I validated by using different position around the listening spot, that the issues arise by being ≤ 47cm in front of the wall.
But this doesn't help me in any way because my ears are around 29-32 cm in front of the wall.
Then I tried to make at least a measuring at around 49cm +/- 2cm.
And then I stumbled into other issues. Then the distance was quite correct, but your solution gives up to quickly to recognize your Sonarworks micro.
It sees as if your devs did not think about, that the PC is 3.5m away and that it takes some time, after starting the measuring to be at the place to pick-up the mic. I have also the feeling that picking up / touching the mic maybe additionally disturbs the process.
So there are two different types of problematics which are blocking the process entirely.
Regarding your comment
“The standalone application is always installed by default, it is not possible to uncheck it for installation. The reason for this is that the standalone app is the central hub for some of the fundamental software functionality and features (such as activation, etc.). ”
Sorry but this is no real reason.
Once the activation has been done, I do not need this central hub anymore.
Definitively for the installation type as "plugin”.
But even if I would use the other type to correct all audio on my PC, even then I think the Sonarworks service should load silently
without prompting the user for Admin rights.
If I need the hub, then my expectation is, that I can simply start it as a program when needed.
And then I regard it as bad software design, that I need Admin Priviliges only for such a Hub software.
It should communicate via an API with the services in the background but should not need any further admin rights.
This is the only software that I know (and I know a lot of software in my long IT / consulting carreer)
that forces you to enter the administrator password on every login.
This is IMHO a bad softtware design, you should change it.
