Ask help from a blind--37 points difficulty

Hello,
I'm a blind musician. I just started a trial of the reference software. All goes well until I come to the 37 points. Here the indications are not texts, but image, so I'm not able to do the caliberation. Here are some questions:

  1. My room is 10m^2. Should I use a long xlr cable to go around?
  2. Could you please tell me the detailed locations of the 37 points? I can't see the image. The person helping me is also confused, because there's only a circle with 2 smaller nested, then a microphone, not the real picture.
  3. I can hear the speakers give lots of clapping sounds, sometimes louder while sometimes quieter. Is there a rule that I can find the correct position by listening these sounds' change?
  4. There are sometimes big objects such as bookshelf or bed in my room. If one of the points ask me to move to a place I can't reach, how can I do?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Haipeng

Haipeng thanks for posting!

The accessibility features are not exactly refined in SoundID Reference, and the Measure app process is based on visual mechanisms. So for successful measurements, you will need someone to help you, see the screen and the room, and understand how the mic locating mechanism works. Let me explain the mechanics:

  • A 3m cable should be more than enough.
  • You'll want to make sure your listening area (the small radius area around the listening spot) doesn't have any obstructions in it. Similarly, the desk workspace shouldn't have anything on it obscuring the speakers.
  • As long as you have a reasonable listening area clear and available, you shouldn't have any issues bumping into bookshelves or other unreachable areas. If you find that you are bumping into such objects and are unable to reach the needed measurement point, chances are that your initial listening spot measurement (the center in the center of your listening area) wasn't measured in the correct location, thus making the entire listing area measurements off and away from that space. The listing area size can depend on the speaker distance and some other factors, but let's say should be a 1-2 meter area in diameter with your listening spot in the center of it. I recommend making sure the listing area is clear, starting over, and paying attention to nail the correct listening spot location before entering the Room Response measurement stage.
  • No, the microphone locating signals don't have any volume-based indications. The Measure app can increase and decrease the volume automatically for other reasons, but such volume changes should not be interpreted as indications of where to move the microphone

For the person helping you, the idea of the mic-locating mechanism is simple: there is a measurement point location showing on the screen, and the current microphone location is also shown on the screen in real-time. You must move the microphone so that it gets into the measurement point on the screen. Perhaps you'll want the person helping you to have a look at this video tutorial: Measuring speakers with SoundID Reference.

Additionally, here's a troubleshooting guide too: Stereo speaker measurement troubleshooting guide. I hope this helps, let us know if you're are to complete the measurements successfully!
