Not sure what is causing the error, but here are a few things you could try to fix it:

• Switch to the ASIO output mode instead, it might be better compatible with your output device: [WIN] ASIO/WASAPI output modes in Reference 4 Systemwide
• Try various difference sample rate and buffer size settings

Have you noticed any specific triggers for the error?

Note: In case you have missed it, I should clarify that Reference 4 has been unsupported and discontinued since 2021. Any Windows 11 updates that have been installed since 2021 have the potential to cause incompatibility issues, so finding a solution for the issue is a longshot.
