Stupid question but can't find an answer (someone else asked previously here but there's no resolution)
Basically, every time I launch the software Guitar Pro 8, SoundID opens automatically even though it's not running on my machine at the time.
I can't find any setting to stop this from happening. Both SoundID and Guitar Pro 8 use the same audio device and SoundID is up to date, as these questions were asked to the previous person who posted about the issue

Eoin Moriarty indeed, that original post never had a conclusion. Very interesting case, I have created a support request on your behalf to have a closer look at the issue. Thanks for posting!
I have a similar issue. Whenever I use Guitar Pro 8. SoundID reference stops working, i.e. it's not playing any audio any more. I need to reboot the computer for it to work again.
Niels Provos does Guitar Pro have any output settings, is SoundID Reference assigned as output there? Please share some screesnhot if this, if possible. Thank you!
This is not quite what I meant. When I start Guitar Pro, SoundID Reference stops working system-wide. Even after quitting Guitar Pro, it's not possible to get SoundID Reference working again. I tried changing from Virtual Windows to ASIO to Virtual ASIO to ASIO and back but no matter what I do in SoundID Reference, it will no longer play any audio. The only way to get it to work again is to reboot the Windows system which is quite disruptive to productivity.
Niels Provos thanks for elaborating!
Sure, I understand - that's exactly why I asked about Guitar Pro capabilities and settings in terms of output. Any such issues arise for a reason, they are never random. Usually, such conflicts and problems between audio apps (especially when virtual audio devices are involved) are related to the I/O settings of various components, where which is being used, are there any exclusive mode settings to impact the functionality, sample rate changes that might take place when a certain component is launched (especially is both components are using the same output device), and accordingly the driver type used (what should the login be for that driver type, and what the potential culprits could be).
SoundID Reference is an output device running an audio driver. If it suddenly stops when Guitar Pro is launched, then the logical thing to investigate is to figure out how Guitar Pro is connected to the I/O and the Windows Audio Engine. For example, it could turn out that it has some output settings of its own, and it takes control over the physical output device in an exclusive mode, making it unavailable for other apps that may be using it (such as SoundID Reference), leading to an issue.
Here is the screenshot from Guitar Pro 8
Funny, I have the exact same problem as Niels. Just bought guitar pro 8. Hey Niels, did it previously work or is this a new problem?
It used to work fine with Guitar Pro 8 before. I don't know whether it was a Windows update, Guitar Pro update or Sonarworks updates. That said, SoundID Reference frequently stops working but usually it can be fixed by just restarting the software or the driver. In this case, I have not figured out any way to get it working again. Fortunately, the plugin in the DAW doesn't go through windows drivers.
Niels Provos I can see that the Audio output is set to Primary Sound Driver. Presumably, this means the default/currently used Windows system output device, which might be SoundID Reference (although it's unclear how exactly, as the app is not running at the time, according to your issue description, and is somehow launched when Guitar Pro is launched).
In any case, can you try to set the Audio output to a different device (to your physical output device/audio interface), and see if the issue remains? What are the output options if you click on that dropdown menu?
