My Airpods Max are connected to my mac, Sound ID shows that the Sound is coming through the input and goes out. But i hear nothing, only if i switch the output from “Sound ID Reference” to “Air Pods Max” i hear what Spotify plays.
I tried it also with the lighting cable, but it also doesn"t work .

Please see if the Airpods are not connected to any other devices. Also, within SoundID Reference check that the correct output has been set and selected - for the very same headphone.
When that is done, see if the sound goes through. If not, then it could be that the output has been accidentally muted under the system > preferences > sound settings.
