An idea to bring back predefined target curves without any fear of legal issues

I would really love to have curves for NS-10s, Auratones and Avantones. I think I understand your concerns about legal issues and partnership opportunities. While you are getting these worked out, how about this:

Give us curves for popular reference speakers in some common listening environments for use with headphones. E.g.: NS-10s in a bright, medium sized living room; Avantones in a well-treated, acoustically smooth studio. So you are not “copying” the speakers and are not reducing manufacturers’ sales, since this would only be used with headphone profiles.

Could this work?

    I'm afraid it's not as simple as that. While there are a few ways to make this possible, they are rather 'workarounds' and not solutions. We have to consider our long-term collaboration plans with hardware manufacturers - ruining those industry relationships is a lot easier than establishing and improving them. For that reason, we cannot take the risk of using such workarounds.

    This will definitely pay off in the long run for both us and our users, we will be able to implement our technology into all sorts of hardware and software solutions if we build healthy relationships with our friends in the industry. And still, we do see a lot of value in simulating different playback environments as a feature, so we are definitely trying to find a way of bringing a similar feature back - brand new and better than before even!
