Using Reference 4 with Apollo Twin Duo.

Hi everyone :)

I have a question about calibrating my Monitors using my newly purchase Reference 4 Studio Edition with Mic.

I am reading the manual, and obviously my XREF20 will be plugged into my Apollo's XLR input.

What I'm confused about is that whenever a Mic in plugged into the Apollo's XLR input, the signal is routed through whatever Mic Pre I have loaded, and I can't use the Apollo unless one of their Preamps is used.

This leads me to ask that if every UAD Preamp is varying the EQ/Tone/etc., in other words, it will not be a true clean signal, won't that coloration be passed on to the Reference 4's analysis of my room, which in turn will not be accurate?

I wondered the same thing. I called over o UAD and the answer is "yes". It was suggested to just bypass any of the modeled mic pre's and just use the interface @ 44.1 and 48V power. Any of the mic pre model would tend to add color, thereby throwing off any measurements.

Yes! You should be able to still use the microphone input without a pre-amp modeling plug-in enabled and also get good measurement data.

You can refer to the image below for the preferable input channel settings.
