What is Reference 3 speaker correction doing exactly? Only Frequency correction?

Hello,

I'm demoing Reference 3 for speakers at the moment.

It's great that it has such a usable and easy to understand process, but don't forget the more technical advanced users. I really would like to read a bit more about the technical side.

When I'm researching other correction products, I mostly get a pretty clear description what it does on a technical level. I really would know a bit more which speaker/room issues are exactly addressed. At the moment it's kind of a blackbox for me.

1) Even with the listening spot correction off (so the speaker balance should be the same as when disabled, i guess), I think that the stereo image may get a tiny bit wider with Reference 3 turned on. It's sound good, but I need to understand if this is correct or a side effect.

2) Is it only correcting the frequency response and volume (for stereo), or is it also correcting the impulse response or phase response from a speaker setup or anything else? (* I don't meant a correction from phase problems just intruduced by the correction filter, but more the (speaker) response in general).

3) Is this the same for all filter modes?

Hi Jonas,

Even with the listening spot adjustment turned off, there still can be differences in the left and right channels due to inconsistencies in the measured frequencies and this can cause widening of the stereo image.

Currently our calibrations correct only the frequency response, phase correction is something we are looking into, but do not currently offer.

Yes, it is the same for all filter modes, but different filter modes can also bring side effects like the pre-ringing side effect on lower frequencies, you can read more about these here.

Thanks for your input, we're always looking to improve our software for both the more technical users and casual listeners.
