Where To Now?

Ok, I profiled my speakers and ran my mix through SoundID. The result was nice, or at least different. I can't bounce down the mix with SoundID enabled, ok, got that.

I am new to this, so others may have the same question. What I am looking for doesn't seem to show up in any tutorials or references, no matter how much I have looked.

Should I tweak the mix EQ now, so that SoundID makes the mix sound the way I want it to? Doing that, I am sure my mix is going to sound weird in my room without SoundID doing its thing. My mixes seem to be fine when I listen in other locations outside of my room, such that I am not aware that they really need any treatment at all. The question is really: now that I have done all that with SoundID, what do I do with the results?

alanlowe the render-bypass workflow can be slightly counter-intuitive for new users, so it is important to understand those basic principles:

  1. The plugin should be enabled during the entire mixing and mastering process
  2. The plugin should then be hard-bypassed for rendering

You have already somewhat answered your own question: it is the translation to other devices/playback systems that matters. Yes, after bypassing the plugin and rendering the audio, it will sound weird in your workspace, but the point is that the calibration has already corrected for the ups and downs in your room during the process (sort of like a “lie detector”), so the mixing decisions you've made during the process have been done on a flat system, uncolored by the sound of your room/speakers. This is what ultimately improves the mix translation to other playback systems outside of your own studio.

Otherwise, there is nothing else that should be done with the results - simply distribute your production work just like you did before (to your clients, or to listeners), and see the reaction. Chances are, you will be getting back fewer mix notes, and getting a good mix will require fewer mix editions (you are likely to get good feedback straight after the first audio export, rather than going back and adjusting the mix several times based on the listener's feedback).

Thank you for the response, Kārlis. That confirms what I suspected using common sense. But I could not find any instructions on the matter.
