Audio Interface for SoundID Reference Measure

Hi,

I own Sonarworks SoundID Reference since version 3. I made measurements using a calibrated USB mic with acceptable results.

This time I want to make the most accurate measurements for calibration. I am about to buy a SoundID Reference Measurement Microphone. My main interface is a Antelope Audio Orion 32 Gen.1, which does not have a mic preamp.

My question and main concern is if it would be better to take the measurements using a Focusrite Solo interface connected to my studio monitors and SoundID Reference Measurement Microphone or to just buy a transparent preamp and connect it to my Antelope Audio interface as well as my studio monitors.

I hope made my self clear.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards,

Raffaele

Raffaele Bonetti use the Focusrite Solo. To avoid any measurement issues, make sure to have only a single device for your I/O.

While technically speaking, an additional microphone preamp unit is okay to use and not really a separate I/O device, preamp units might still come with additional features (for example, with advanced clocking features, etc.), which can still affect the stability. Any such instability can cause sample drift, which might interfere with the microphone locating mechanism.

Using the Focusrite Solo separately will do a clean job, and you don't have to buy anything else anew.
