    Hey Trevor!

When you calibrate your speakers, sub-woofer is already included in the overall sound at the sweet-spot, together with your monitors. We calibrate everything together to avoid weird phasing issues and you do want to have your 2.1 setup as a one, unified unit, right? :)

Are there any general tips on where to position a sub and volume level, phase, or other settings before calibration? I know each setup and room will certainly be different, but I’m curious if there are methods for better accuracy and calibration.

    thanks!

You could actually do some test measurements with REW (it's a donation-ware) and see how the frequency response looks like with phase flipped, position changed etc. It also has a cool Room Simulation where you can see beforehand where some of the room modes could be in your room.
