Status: Issue resolved
Resolution version: 5.11.1.3 - download here
Release date: Jun 19, 2024 - release notes

Missing speaker profiles from SoundID Reference

We have received reports of speaker profiles missing or deleted from the Sonarworks Projects folder without the end-user's acknowledgment. When this happens, it manifests as follows:

  • Being logged out involuntarily (mostly after an update)
  • The setup of output and presets have disappeared upon logging in
  • Speaker profiles are missing

Our Development Team implemented a fix in the 5.7.3 release. Despite this, the issue still occurs for some users and we continue to look into this.

Issue fixed with 5.11.1.3 update

With the 5.11.1.3 release update (June 19), a fix for the missing SoundID Reference speaker profiles and settings files issue has been released, download the installer here

Note: The issue oftentimes takes place during the update process. Even if you are updating from an earlier version (older than 5.11.1.3) to the latest available version, the issue can potentially still occur during that update. It is only AFTER the 5.11.1.3 update (or later) is installed, and the speaker profiles are in place, only then you can be sure it will not happen again.

Recovering lost speaker profiles

Lost speaker profiles can be recovered using Time Machine or another backup mechanism if you are using one.

  • Use Time Machine file restore
  • Check if the file was shared, uploaded to cloud storage, etc.
  • Remeasure your speakers in SoundID Reference Measure

Note: After a successful restore, or remeasuring the setup, we recommend backing up your new profile (the .swproj file) in a different location. Find your speaker profiles here: Where can I find my speaker profile?

Time Machine file restore

  1. Make sure your Time Machine backup disk is connected to your computer.
  2. Add Time Machine to your Manu Bar: go to System Settings > Control Centre > Menu Bar > Time Machine, and select 'Show in Menu Bar'
  3. Click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar > Enter Time Machine.
  4. Find the file or folder you want to restore - your .swproj speaker profile file. You will see all your previous saves stacked on top of one another. The farther back they are, the longer it has been since that save was made. You can also see when the backup was made by looking at the timeline in the bottom-right corner. Use the spacebar to preview the file to make sure it’s the correct one.
  5. Click on Restore.

If you're unable to use Time Machine to restore the data, you will have to measure your speakers one more time. We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Well done that “fix” . Yesterday I updated to 5.9.2 and now all profiles are deleted. It's not the first time so i have my backups… but annoying anyway. You should find a solution for that, it's time.

Hello,

I share my problem to try to help.

Several years without losing any presets (a reboot of the Mac was usually enough to fix it), I disconnected my computer and put it back in the studio, no more presets available... I tried to use the procedure indicated for Time Machine: it didn't solve the problem.

I'm using Reference Version 5.9.2 (5.9.2.5), my Mac has to run Mojave 10.14.6 and can't be updated. So I haven't been able to update Reference…

A month ago I tried to update Reference when everything was working normally, but I couldn't complete the installation because Mojave isn't compatible. I think that's where the problem lies...

I've started the calibration procedure again. It works, but I don't get exactly the same treatment any more. Strangely enough, I haven't lost my settings for my headphones, only for my 2 pairs of monitors.

Now it works but it's very frustrating…

antoninlemonnier thanks for sharing!

I'm afraid version 5.9.2.5 is still subject to the issue, as the fix was only implemented with 5.11.1.3. Since the newer versions are not compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave, I advise keeping backups for your speaker profiles (the .swproj files). Find them here: Where can I find my speaker profile?

Note: The issue oftentimes takes place during the update process. Even if you are updating from an earlier version (older than 5.11.1.3) to the latest version, the issue can potentially still occur during that update. It is only AFTER the 5.11.1.3 update (or later) is installed, and the speaker profiles are in place, only then you can be sure it will not happen again.

Apologies again for everyone who encountered this problem, and for how long it took us to pin down and fix the underlying issue.
