Unable to activate SoundID Reference

How to activate SoundID Reference on your computer

If you are activating SoundID Reference for the first time, take a look at our support article on how to activate SoundID Reference here: How to register and activate a SoundID Reference license

The last step of the activation process requires you to allow the communication between the browser and the SoundID Reference app. If everything is working correctly, you will see a pop-up message in your browser after clicking on 'Activate on this device' in your Sonarworks Account which will prompt you to open SoundID Reference.

Unable to complete the activation process

If you are getting stuck in your browser after clicking on 'Activate on this device' in your account (no pop-up appears in the browser prompting to launch SoundID Reference), there are a few things you can try to resolve the issue: 

  1. Launch the SoundID Reference app prior to beginning the activation process (if you're unable to launch the app, please delete the app's configuration file: Deleting the config file in standalone app and user.json and license.json files located in the locations mentioned here: SoundID Reference standalone app not launching);
  2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies (Google Chrome guide, Mozilla Firefox guide);
  3. Use the default browser on your machine for the activation process (Microsoft Edge or Safari); 
  4. Check whether any pop-ups are being blocked in your browser (Google Chrome guide. Mozilla Firefox guide);
  5. If the pop-up does appear, but you don't see SoundID Reference as an option, make sure that SoundID Reference is mentioned in Windows Apps or Mac Applications. If the app is not found, most likely it has not installed properly. Try installing the software one more time.

I'm replacing my computer. How do I activate Sonarworks on a new computer and de-activate it on the old computer?

I'm stuck in a loop. Sound ID Reference opens the website, there I try to activate on this device, that opens Sound ID Reference and on and on. Has somebody a solution to this?

I have had the same problem for weeks. I click “activate my license” and get sent to a page to put in an activation key – I put the activation key into the form, and it says I already have that on my account. Then, when I return to the app it says I need to add an activation key. 

Is it time for me to just switch to IK Multimedia's ARC system? These activation problems are ridiculous.

bought an Apollo Twin X at the end of December 2024 and activated it
everything worked fine) today the SoundID microphone arrived, I decided to set up the monitors - I open the UAD console, launch the SoundIDT monitoring and it asks me to activate the license - and then a vicious circle - there is an activation code on the website already - and it says that the license is activated - and is linked to my MacBook) - but in the Sound Reference program it asks for activation

I can't activate my SoundID reference. I've tried everything your article said. Now I can't even find my Activation Code. It has disappeared from my account on the website! This is crazy!!!!!!!

I'm confused. Are the people running this company ignoring the comments, or are they simply unable to fix the issue? Does anyone know how to get in touch with the app's administrators?

Me too! I did a hard reset. But I still have my licence.json & user.json file from old pc. Help, please! I can't use anything

Hi, 

I see some already have reached out to us with a support ticket. For those who are still experiencing an issue, I would like to urge to submit a support request, available at the bottom of this article. 

To clarify for Apollo X users: likely the Apollo Monitor Correction Add-on has been registered and activated correctly. AMC is an add-on only though, it unlocks the UA Apollo X integration in the software. A base license for SoundID Reference is still needed.
