How it works
If you have already created your individual sound profile with SoundID, you'll quickly understand that the new mobile app is not a music player. In fact, the concept we're building with SoundID is a lot more ambitious than simply being a music player.
Creating your personalized profile with the SoundID mobile app: the SoundID mobile app creates your personalized sound profile based on your unique hearing specifics, personal sound preferences and correcting for any inaccuracies of your headphones. The profile can be continuously revisited and improved.
Enabling SoundID in different playback platforms: once your profile is created, you will be able to connect and enable your SoundID profile in different playback platforms - not only software but hardware too! Browsing through our website and within the SoundID software itself, you'll notice images like these, indicating the playback platforms we're working on and planning to support:
What does that mean?
There are a lot of different icons showing up, including headphones, software applications, speakers and even cars. So what does that mean exactly? How are all of these platforms going to be supported? Is the technology developed and available already? How soon can we expect SoundID to be integrated into your favorite playback service or device?
Software playback platforms
SoundID integrated into your favorite playback software! Within the music player of your choice, it will be as simple as going to settings and enabling SoundID. This applies to both computer playback software as well as mobile. Specific details and announcements on players supporting SoundID are going to follow soon and the first fully functional integrations follow throughout 2020. Read more on the currently available playback platforms here
Your personalized sound on a system-wide level of a device! Applying the personalized sound to all of your computer sound is already possible with the SoundID Listen desktop app (a full product release will follow in April and a free trial will be available). As SoundID grows, we will be able to integrate our technology into the operating systems of different devices. Not only music playback will be SoundID capable, but all sound on the given device has the potential to be calibrated with SoundID. Other devices also the potential for system-level integration.
350+ headphone models are already supported in SoundID and we are constantly adding new ones. But adjusting the sound of headphones with SoundID software is just the beginning - we will soon have SoundID technology built-in into headphones physically! The first headphone model with SoundID built-in will be announced in 2020 - stay tuned for that!
Other hardware devices
Screen monitors, TV's, bluetooth speakers, full-size speakers and Hi-Fi systems, and even cars - any audio capable device can feature SoundID already integrated within it. We are on a mission to deliver personalized sound everywhere. However, transferring your personalized sound across these devices is not as straight forward as headphones since the sound of them is affected by the environment they are in (we are currently able to transfer the SoundID profile across different headphone models using Sonarworks headphone calibration technology).
Those integrations will come further down the road as there are still major milestones to be reached before the technology is ready. Sonarworks technology is already being used by music creators and audio engineers across 45'000 recording studios worldwide. Our experience in this field will allow us to innovate even further and apply SoundID everywhere.
