SoundID VoiceAI preset previews not working in Logic Pro X, Pro Tools and Cubase

The option to preview the presets of SoundID VoiceAI is not working in Logic Pro X, Pro Tools and Cubase - this article explains why, and offers a solution.

In this article:

Preview only works if playback in initiated

You may have noticed in Logic Pro X and Pro Tools that the SoundID VoiceAI preset previews are not working until DAW playback is initiated. This is a limitation of these DAWs and is due to how these DAWs manage their plugin CPU consumption.

The processing efficiency measures in these DAWs "put plugins to sleep" when no audio is passing through or playback is not initiated, resulting in preset previews not working.

Solutions

Use the Test Oscillator plugin in Logic Pro

A workaround is possible via the Test Oscillator utility plugin in Logic Pro, which essentially disarms the CPU and processing efficiency feature in Logic Pro. The presence of the Test Oscillator on the audio track resolves the problem even if it is turned OFF. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the voice/audio track where SoundID VoiceAI is loaded
  2. Go to plugin selection: Plugins > Utilities > Test Oscillator
  3. Turn OFF the Test Oscillator plugin

Turn off the 'Dynamic Plug-In Processing' setting in Pro Tools

To resolve the issue in Pro Tools, the Dynamic Plug-In Processing setting must be turned OFF in the Playback Engine settings:

  1. Launch Pro Tools and go to Setup > Playback Engine
  2. Uncheck the Dynamic Plug-In Processing setting (turn it OFF)
  3. Click on OK to save the changes

Turn off 'Smart Plug-in Processing' in Cubase

To resolve the issue in Cubase, the Smart Plug-In Processing setting should be disabled:

  1. Select File > Preferences > VST-Plug-ins
  2. Deactivate Suspend VST 3 plug-in processing when no audio signals are received
