Reference 4 license transfer to another computer

You can transfer your license to a new device via your Sonarworks user account. This guide provides steps for the license transfer process.

In this article:

  1. License transfer
  2. Transferring your license to a new computer
  3. Deactivation limits

License transfer

In order to transfer the license to another computer, you will need to have a Sonarworks user account created. If you haven't created a user account yet, proceed to sign up here.

All regular Reference 4 licenses can be activated and used on 3 devices. EDU licenses (if you've applied and purchased with an educational discount) can only be used on 1 device.

Transferring your license to a new computer

If you have reached the limit and need to transfer your license to a new computer, you will first need to deactivate the device that's no longer going to be used in your user account:

  1. In the upper right-hand corner, hover over My Account and select Licenses & Devices from the dropdowndeactivate3.png
  2. Find your Reference 4 license and click on Manage (if you don't see your Reference 4 license, you can register the license key via the Register a new license button)

  3. Deactivate the device you're no longer going to be using by clicking Deactivate next to your devicedeact3_ref4.png
  4. Proceed to activate the license on your new computer

Deactivation limits

There is a deactivation limit in place in order for the system not to be abused: 7 deactivation events. When the limit is reached it will show up in your user account. After that, any further device deactivation can only be done by the Sonarworks support team manually (to do that please submit a support ticket below).

IMPORTANT! Reinstalling the operating system on your machine or replacing major hardware components (motherboard, hard drive, etc.) can cause it to be recognized as a new computer by the software. Thus, it will require to be activated again, using a new activation seat.
