Render-bypass and notification in DAW plugin

You need to bypass the Reference 4 DAW plugin every time you are exporting audio from your DAW. Otherwise, the correction will be applied to your master bus mixdown.

Note that the plug-in is meant to calibrate your speakers and room just like acoustic treatment would. Failing to bypass the effect would mean adding the sonic anomalies of your system to the rendered audio. Make sure you make a full plugin bypass in your DAW, not just the calibration bypass inside your Reference plugin.

Render-bypass notification

The Reference 4 DAW plugin has a render-bypass notification warning users who bounce audio with calibration left on. (This feature is available in Reference versions 4.2. and newer.)

This is just an informative message - the rendering process will not be stopped. By default, the notification is turned on. It can be turned off from the notification settings in the top right corner of the plugin.

NB! This feature is currently only available in select DAWs, listed below.

On Windows:

VST

  • Steinberg Cubase 8.5, Cubase 9.5, Cubase 10
  • PreSonus Studio One 4
  • Image Line FL Studio 12
  • Ableton Live 10
  • Cakewalk by BandLab (Reference 4.2.1)

AAX

  • Avid Pro Tools 2018 *

On macOS:

VST

  • Steinberg Cubase 8.5, Cubase 9.5, Cubase 10
  • PreSonus Studio One 4
  • Ableton Live 10

AU

  • PreSonus Studio One 4
  • Ableton Live 10
  • MOTU Digital Performer 9

AAX

  • Avid Pro Tools 2018 *

Other DAWs will not have this notification enabled, and you won’t be able to turn it on. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Logic X
  • Reaper
  • Avid Pro Tools 10

The reason for not including the feature in these workstations is that not all DAWs fully communicate with our plugin, so we can’t reliably detect whether audio is being rendered or whether the plugin has been bypassed. If you want us to include the notification in an unsupported DAW, please contact their respective support and let them know!

* In Pro Tools 2018, the render-bypass notification only works for regular offline rendering mode. The notification will not show up with real-time rendering - we are currently not able to detect that:
