Where can I find my speaker profile?

Find your speaker profiles to load them in Systemwide or the DAW plugin, back them up, or troubleshoot an issue.

In this article:

  1. The 'Sonarworks Projects' folder
  2. Navigating to the Sonarworks Projects folder manually

The 'Sonarworks Projects' folder

By default, all speaker measurement profiles will be stored as .swproj files in the Sonarworks Projects folder.

The quickest and easiest way of accessing the Sonarworks Projects folder is by clicking on the 'Open profile' option in the calibration profile selection dropdown menu:

See the directories shown below to access the Sonarwroks Projects folder manually.

NOTE! Both the AppData folder on Windows and User Library folder on Mac are hidden by default. To access them, you will need to allow showing hidden files.

Windows:

C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Sonarworks\Reference 4\Sonarworks Projects

macOS:

Macintosh HD/Users/your_username/Library/Sonarworks/Reference 4/Sonarworks Projects

After you find the needed profile, you can back it up and transfer it just like any other file.

Also, please note that there are no pre-made speaker profiles available in the Reference 4 software because they have to be created by measuring the frequency response of your speakers in your room using the Reference 4 Measure app.

So when SiD does an update and jacks your calibrations but recommends you have them in a safe backup somewhere, but makes the user jump through hoops just to find the “hidden” files…God knows why they're hidden, then doesn't keep this info up to date with latest OS updates, annoys the crap outta me.

To the company's credit, I did get an email stating the latest update solves the deleted profiles…but I cringe at the thought of losing my profiles AGAIN.

after much ado I finally located the profiles and have them in a different folder I can ezily find, but why that option isn't offered when creating a profile is kinda dim….

I like the product, but much more of this an I'll have to move on.

Martin Poole I'm sorry to hear you previously encountered the issue of [MAC] Settings lost and missing speaker profiles - issue fixed which affected some users on SoundID Reference. While resolved, this was indeed an unpleasant bug. A back up of your speaker profile is a good idea, but should no longer be necessary. We have implemented a backup folder within the Sonarworks directory that will safe keep your speaker profile, as well as your settings.

The directory for the Sonarworks folders is indeed hidden by default on both macOS and Windows. We have a good article here on how to show these file paths. Thank you for your feature request of custom location for saving your speaker profile. I have forwarded it to our Product team for review.
