Profile export availability and requirements

With the SoundID Reference 5.12.0 update, an integration with RME family interfaces has been released, learn more here SoundID Reference - Integrations. You can now export speaker calibration calibration profiles and import them utilizing the RoomEQ feature in the RME's TotalMix software.

Note: The integration supports Stereo and Multichannel speaker profile export, headphone profiles are not supported.

SoundID Reference export options and license requirements:

RME hardware and system requirements:

  • RME's TotalMix software installed
  • A supported RME integration device:
    • UFX+
    • UFX II
    • UFX III
    • UCX II
    • Fireface 802 FS
    • HDSPe MADI FX Rev. 2
    • MADIface XT II

Measuring a stereo speaker configuration

It is not required to remeasure your speakers to take advantage of the RME integration - you can simply export your existing profile from the SoundID Reference standalone app and proceed on upload it to your RME device.

However, for accurate results, it is recommended to clear and currently active DSP adjustments on your RME, and remeasure the speakers for a fresh profile:

  1. Open the RME TotalMix software and clear any active DSP adjustments (EQ, channel delay, etc.)
  2. Remeasure your speakers, follow the speaker measurement guides here:

The SoundID Reference Measure app will guide you through the speaker measurement process. If you're having difficulties, or there's an error message, follow these guides:

Exporting a calibration profile

With the speaker calibration profile saved and ready to go, proceed as follows:

  1. Launch SoundID Reference standalone app
  2. Load your calibration profile (create an output preset)
  3. Adjust the preset DSP settings (Target Curve, Listening Spot, Dry/Wet, etc.) - these settings adjustments will also be included in the profile export.
Note: Make sure Calibration is Enabled before exporting
  4. Navigate to your preset in the left sidebar and click on '' (the three-dot menu) > Export
  5. Select your export target device, and proceed with the export instructions in the app

Note: For exact details on what's included in the profile export, see the What's included in the profile export? section below.

Importing the calibration profile via the RME TotalMix app

The exported calibration profile will be saved as a .tmreq file in the Sonarworks Projects > Exported Presets directory (see the exact location below). This file needs to be uploaded to the RME device using RME's TotalMix app:

Stereo speaker profiles

  1. Connect your RME device and launch the TotalMix app
  2. Navigate to the Hardware Outputs section and click on 🔧 > Room EQPresetImport
  3. Select your .tmreq calibration file

Multichannel speaker profiles

Multichannel profiles are exported as separate files for each channel, and each will have to be imported separately:

  1. Connect your RME device and launch the TotalMix app
  2. Navigate the Hardware Outputs section, select one of your physical output channels🔧> Room EQPreset > Import
  3. Select the .tmreq calibration file for the correct channel
  4. Repeat the process for each channel individually

What's included in the profile export?

The exported calibration profile will include the following information and DSP settings adjustments by default:

  • Calibration
  • Target Mode
  • Dry/Wet
  • Listening Spot
  • Limit Controls
  • Preset Name

The exported calibration profile will not include the following information (your target device may use its own processing solutions for these DSP features):

  • Output Gain: the gain control will take place on the integration device
  • Filter Type: processing will take place on the integration device, using its own filter solution
  • Safe Headroom: the values are exported in the profile, but might be applied differently on different integration devices

Note: Make sure that Calibration is Enabled before exporting the profile so that Calibration and all DSP settings are successfully included in the export.

Hello, Cool feature ! Why headphone's profile can't be export ? it would be super practical to correct the monitoring on several different headphones.

rawmentalitee as already mentioned above, we'd love to provide headphone profile export too, but this requires additional development work on the integration partners' side.

I recommend getting in touch and sharing your feature request with the integration partner directly. Also, posting on some RME community forums might help to get some traction from other users.

Diego Schiavo yes, it is included (for both Stereo and Multichannel). The parameters and features included in the export is exactly as shown in the article above:

  • Calibration
  • Target Mode
  • Dry/Wet
  • Listening Spot
  • Limit Controls
  • Preset Name

It doesn't support UFX1?

In multichannel mode does the .tmreq file account for the delay of each individual speaker, or is it just focused only on EQ adjustments?

Venom the RME integration was released with the latest 5.12 update, it is not available in older versions of SoundID Reference. If you are running macOS 10.14 Mojave, you are limited to the 5.6 Legacy version. The latest release version requires at least macOS 11 Big Sur, see compatibility details here: SoundID Reference software releases (component matrix and support status).

The easiest solution would be to update your operating system to match the system requirements of the latest versions. Alternatively, you could use a different (newer) computer to export the profile - that should resolve it quickly.

I am trying to export the calibration file for my ufx ii but I dont see the option for RME.Still on Mojave mac and 5.6.1.

Also when trying to export in another format  for audio interface  I get this….."Failed to export preset.

Michael Calderon support for headphone profile export would require additional involvement from RME to implement IP protection for the Sonarworks headphone profiles. As already mentioned above, providing the headphone export (in any format) is simple, but the files need to be encrypted to protect Sonarworks' intellectual property.

If you'd like to see it, we recommend reaching out to RME directly or posting on RME social media channels or community forums. If enough user traction is gathered, they might consider implementing it.

reading thru this and sorry if i missed it. While i understand the needs of different vendors can we generate a text file from headphone profiles ?

Same as some others I would like to have this in RME, but before the RME integration the AVID export prompt would allow us to export a text file. Albeit 8 bands and not 9. I am currently running cubase and can obviously load the profile there but text would be nice.

Either way I love this product and the RME integration is amazing

Thank You

rawmentalitee providing the export parameters is easy. The blocker is something else: protecting the Sonarworks IP, specifically, our headphone profile library (the profiles are made using our proprietary headphone measurement technology).

To make them available as an export option for any integrated device, the profiles would have to be encrypted (similarly to how it is done in the Sonarworks software), and the integration device would have to support the encrypted file format. This requires a further development effort on the partner’s side - no other way around it.

Thanks for quick reply @Karlis, will do.
However maybe idea with exporting text file with Gain, Freq and Q settings would work instead? This way everyone could generate them and implement manually for now until it's fully supported? As it's all about what you know about our headphones really :)
Even “beta sounding” version would do as often using my interface without computer (as standalone with samplers and mixer) and would love to have headphones calibration saved as 1990 pro's just sound much better with it.
I was also counting on RME's ADI-2 Remote App to be supported since that would be even more exciting. It has 7 band EQ instead of 3 like TotalMix so maybe more do-able? I'm not a specialist tho

Shame it doesn't work for headphones on RME interfaces as mainly because of this I bought whole set.

It wasn't really clear export working only for speakers.

Ben Wood did you notice how it is slightly different for Stereo and Multichannel profiles? Perhaps you are attempting to load the Stereo profile on one of the individual channels (it should be the stereo out on the bottom right corner in TotalMix).

I have followed all the steps but my tmreq file is greyed out and I can't select it.

I'm on SoundID 5.12 and TotalMix 1.95 on Mac Ventura 13.5.2.

Camille we would also love to see headphone profile export becoming available for RME and other integration partners. But this would require additional development work on the RME's side.

In other words, it depends on further integration work from the partner, so I recommend getting in touch and sharing your feature request with RME directly. Also, posting on some RME community forums might help to get some traction from other users.

Heejong Yoo there is nothing on the product roadmap for Motu specifically, but generally speaking, we are interested in establishing more new partners and integrations.

0

Thanks for quick reply :) How about Motu products? Any plan for intergration support?

0

Heejong Yoo the RME integration supports only the devices listed above: UFX+, UFX II, UFX III, UCX II, Fireface 802 FS, HDSPe MADI FX Rev. 2, and  MADIface XT II

I'm sorry to hear your model is not on the list. Chances are it is simply too old to support the RoomEQ feature in ToalMix - that would be the main reason it is excluded.
